Choreographed by Bharatanatyam artist Vidhya Subramanian, Sparsha Dance Ensemble invites audiences into a richly layered exploration of rhythm, movement, and the quiet balance between opposing forces that shape both the universe and the self.

Across cultures and philosophies, rhythm has been understood as the force that animates creation, shaping movement, sound, and the delicate balance between opposites. This Bharatanatyam showcase reflects on that primal pulse through ‘Damaru’, a choreographic exploration of duality, energy, and transformation.

Conceived and choreographed by eminent dancer and artistic director Vidhya Subramanian, the work draws from the symbolic power of the damaru, whose form suggests the constant flow between Purusha and Prakriti, stillness and motion, creation and dissolution. Performed by the eight-member Sparsha Dance Ensemble led by Vidhya, the piece unfolds through carefully structured movement and emotional depth, allowing classical technique to engage with contemporary thought.

Set to an original score produced at Resound India, Chennai, ‘Damaru’ marks Sparsha’s first ensemble production, bringing together discipline, reflection, and the shared rhythms that bind the inner self to the wider universe. Don’t miss out!
