Begum Parveen Sultana, the legendary Hindustani vocalist of the Patiala Gharana performed for the first time in Austin. Displaying her incredible 3-octave vocal range and unique “echo / repeat” technique, she left the Austin audience mesmerized and thrilled.
When she ended her concert with her famous “Bhavani Dayani” a bhajan on Ma Durga, the audience was on their feet. It was an special honor to hear her mastery over every aspect of Hindustani music even after 40 years of musical performance.
Begum Sultana was brilliantly accompanied by Pandit Mukundraj Deo on the tabla, and Srinivas Acharya on the harmonium.
